Personal Narrative: Multiple Sclerosis

What I Know I wanted to help my dad when he got diagnosed. It was early fall in 2014, we were eating lunch. It was just a normal day, somelight rain on a cold fall day. I was just wearing the normal jeans and a t-shirt. It had been 25 hours since my dad went to the hospital to get an MRI and a spinal tap to try and diagnose what was wrong. I was as nervous as a dog waiting for the results. The doctor finally called and said we needed to go to the office immediately. We climbed in the car and headed for the hospital. So many things were racing through my mind. It could be anything, he could have cancer and could die in a few weeks. I was scared to death. It was just a cold fall day, one that I would usually love, but not today. When we got to the office, we sat down and waited for the doctor to come in. The room was silent as we waited and wreaked of latex gloves and too much lysol. The doctor came in and told us that he found some white liesons on my dad’s brain. Multiple Sclerosis is a hard disease to define because it affects everyone differently and can be described differently by everyone who has it. To start off, an autoimmune means that instead of the immune system fighting off diseases and foreign cells in the body, it decides that the healthy cells are a threat and begins destroying the healthy cells.
