I’m not quite sure if this was a moment of intellectual brilliance or that of a mind gone completely mad but when writing this essay I was reminded of what I think is a truly brilliant quote. To me and for the sake of this essay we will just presume that what Ophelia meant by this was that everyone knows what they are, better still everyone knows what they are supposed to be. Boys are supposed to wear blue, have short, hair, like sports…girls are supposed to wear pink, have long hair, play with dolls, Irish people are good at GAA and every black man should be good at running and basketball! The point I am getting at here is that everyone knows what they are supposed to be or do in relation to physical activity and sport. But does anyone really know what they may become or who they may become if one was to get rid of these rigid societal values in today’s
