Healthcare systems all around the world can be very similar but also different in many ways. A main concerns in the healthcare system is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and how it can improve or become worse in the near future. There are six different components of a healthcare system. These being things like quality of care, access, affordability, etc. I definitely think that everyone’s healthcare systems needs improvement but this paper will focus more on the U.S. I will compare different countries and see how these components are alike and different and determine the similarities they have with the U.S. I will also give my personal opinion on the PPACA and try to predict what the future implementations of this act will look like.
The three organizations that provided the information of the ranking of health care systems in this paper were “The Commonwealth Fund’s most recent (2011) national health system scorecard, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)”(Davis, Schoen, Stremikis,& Squires, 2014). The first aspect out of six that we look at to judge health care systems is quality of care, this means how well are we actually taking care of the patient. Quality of care is divided into four sub groups being effective care, safe care, coordinated care, and patient-centered care (Davis et al. 2014).
