Nick Walker writes to educate the general populate about neurodiversity and autism. To understand why Walker has written this article one must look at other topics Walker has written and published but also where this article is from. First, he writes on his blog called Neurocosmopolitanism, and he has been published in “Disability Studies in Education” and in “Loud Hands: Autistic People, Speaking”. This shows that Walker wants to educate and share about autism. In the first two paragraphs Walker defines the main two ideas of his essay and gives the essay a direction. Then the remainder of the paper is relating back to the main ideas of the two paradigms. Walker does a good job of using topic sentences and summary sentences to help emphasize his point for each paragraph. This helps the flow of the essay and shows the reader how each topic relates the next one. To help show Walker’s tone he uses a serious, professional style accompanied with more studious words. Walker shows how option of many professionals, when regarding autism, are out dated and do not actually help autistic persons by showing a better way of thinking: neurodiversity.
