At the end of 2015, the United States Congress voted to defund the medical clinic Planned Parenthood. Defunding Planned Parenthood could have many repercussions that are harmful to more than just women. Planned Parenthood is a health care provider that is available for men, women, and adolescents. The clinic provides many different forms of services that are affordable and accessible, including abortions among others (Planned Parenthood). With Congress passing a bill that would prevent federal funding to the clinic many issues have arisen, especially for people who lack private insurance, and women. Defunding Planned Parenthood could have many negative effects on the health of many Americans, especially women. The bill congress passed would make it so Planned Parenthood cannot receive any federal funding for any of their affiliates or locations for any services for an entire year. If the clinic certifies that they will not provide abortions, they can receive funding again (Defund Planned Parenthood Act). Health care that patients receive from the government uses federal money to pay for the services the clinics provide. Without federal funding, people with low-income will most likely be unable to receive any treatments provided from Planned Parenthood because it is likely that they have government funded health care.
