We all want to make a difference in our world, so why don't we start off in our schools. Poudre High School is the third worst school in the district for recycling. Rocky, Fort Collins, and Fossil all produce under 95 tons of trash last year. But, Poudre produced 125 tons of trash. These records should embarrass the students, staff, school, and you. I’m here to address this problem to you and make a change. I no longer want to be the school that is actively contributing to school, community, and world pollution. There are a million and one ways that we could reduce these numbers, but I’m here with one.
In our school bathrooms we choose to have only paper towels. Sadly, paper towel waste has caused our school to have severe recycling issues. It also has caused our school to spend a lot of money on these resources. According to our school custodian, our school is spending . That money could be going to new school supplies, sports, arts, etc. But instead we are spending money on paper towels, and even then, it is common to find restrooms without paper towels by the end …show more content…
But how about this, 110 millions trees were chopped down last year just for paper towels. Also 130 billion gallons of water were also used to make these paper towels. The paper towels are used once, sent to a landfill and then decomposed. The decomposure of the paper towels releases methane, a greenhouse gas, to the atmosphere. Methane is a strong component in climate change that affects people, nature, and animals. If that doesn’t scare you then I don’t know what will. We all use paper towels when we use the bathroom but we never think of the consequences. But, the small things count each paper towel used is contributing to world pollution.
