To De La Torre “ Orthoeros” is a view of sexual physical contact where the sexual act is completely equal in nature. He related it to Adam and Eve in Holy Scripture where they stood in front of each other with complete openness with out any shame. Orthoeros is more than a sexual act, it is a mutual sharing that enters the rhelm of each person giving priority to the other’s needs and wishes. If we experience this level of caring our sex will be great regardless of things like prior prejudices or even failing bodies due to age. It is a wanting of the best for our partner. We are to be attuned and responsive to our needs and to the needs of others. The truth is that pastors have different stimulations that are brought on by others. Knowing what they are and what boundaries must be is a part of erotic attunement. Attunement is both adjustments and at times deliberate counter moves to avoid an unhealthy situation. Attunement is a virtue and we know that virtues must be both learned and practices to sharpen our responses in a proper manner. Attunement is an ongoing, non rushed, pondering of oneself and others that the pastor is called to minister to. We all have needs and desires this is part of our human condition but we must continually monitor all of our own personal needs and desires. There are power differentials among clergy and congregant so this attunement is what I call a consistant must. I loved Traina’s example of a new mother with a baby. There are needs and a mother will learn how and when to respond to the child’s needs and wants in a proper manner and this is better learned over time. Each pastor must be very careful not to under emphasize attunement. It is ongoing and very important. I agree more with Dr. Martin Luther King due largely to my “eyes of faith”.
I can say that both leaders carry very strong convictions and both would agree that an action can be just but the reasons are not therefore the action itself pollutes and hurts the human spirit. Dr. King used his arrest for not having a parade permit. He would have gladly paid the penalty for this if there was not a larger under current with in the motivation to arrest him.
President Obama stated that he was “filled with questions about war and peace”. I think Dr. King was more concerned about what were the conditions that brought such a bad outcome and not at all the morality of war or the seeking to create peace through
