You are privileged, have equal opportunity, and with dedication can make your dreams come true. You are the middle class and above. Now picture yourself again. This time you are still an American. Your are still privileged but in a different way, you do have opportunity, and with a lot of dedication your dreams might come true. You are the the lower middle class and the poor. The way that “The Lives of Others” relates to modern life is that in both instances there is oppression. Even though one environment might have a greater amount of oppression then the other, oppression still exists. In the movie people were ruled over with an iron fist and lived in complete fear. But in the 21st century it is not at that point. Instead we have two different types of people. The type who get everything handed to them on a silver platter and the type who have to work for everything they have. The people who get things handed to them can say and basically do whatever they want because at the end of the day they will still be accepted. But for those who have to work in order to reach their dreams they need to be perfect. This is because the people who don't come from the wealthy background are constantly being watched. Their characters are always being judged and because of this life will always be hard for them. This kind of oppression is called discrimination. Not racial but instead social.
