Systematic oppression or institutional discrimination can most easily be defined as “systematic mistreatment of people within a social identity group, supported and enforced by society and its institutions, solely based on the person’s membership in the social identity group itself.” These social identity groups can be either racial, separated by physical differences, or ethnic groups, separated by cultural origin and patterns. Through the functionalist perspective, the question of how does the dominant or majority race benefit from systematic oppression and institutional discrimination arises when looking into the continued oppression of African Americans in the United States by the White majority. If you are White, you are a product of the…

To African American women in the workplace, it is often hard for them because they work in the environments where they are in racial minority and being a woman. Studies shows that African American women who work in predominantly White work environments would mostly likely to experience institutional discrimination and intrapersonal prejudice compare to those who worked in predominantly African American work environments. Institutional discrimination was described as organizational policies and procedures that unfairly restrict the opportunities of African Americans or that gives advantages or privileges for the majority group, while interpersonal prejudice was conceived as negative beliefs, attitudes, and feelings towards African Americans,…

Another aspect of dealing with these refugees that we must be aware of is the recent political minefield surrounding their morality and innocence. While some like to demonize their being, and paint them all as bloodthirsty savages, the other group seems to think them innocent of any wrongdoing, and rebuffs any accusation against them as 'racism ' or 'xenophobia '. Both opinions are bigoted and do not accept the true humanity of these people, with all of its good and bad. However, this concept of a 'politically correct ' culture does little to solve current tensions, and makes it impossible to act if members of one ethnicity are found guilty of a crime, less one be labeled a 'racist '. One simply needs to look to the east towards the race…

I am doing a research on the issues we have in the workplace such as diversity inequality which includes racial, gender, and sexual harassment. As a logistic manager and working in a diverse environment it is our responsibility not to only learn about the issues, but find different ways to prevent the issues from occurring.…
