Acidification is when too much carbon dioxide gets into the ocean which increases the acidity of the water and lowering the ph. I know other issues may be talked about more but if we look really close at acidification, acidification is a huge aftermath of those issues. I swear the human species as a whole is so transparent in the sense that we only see what we want to see or what is right in front of us. I would be willing to bet at least ninety percent of the country does not even know about the effects of ocean acidification on coral reefs. The big issue regarding the Coral Reefs is that the growth rate and other issues such as loss of color of the reef is gradually decreasing and that effects the marine life and the coral itself. Authors from Carnegie Institution have said that “The scientists suggest that ocean acidification may be playing an important role in this perilous slowdown.” Scientists first started acknowledging this Phenom in 1970. They were out on another expedition when they realized that the color was pretty dull. Since then they have been monitoring the reefs around the world and have since realized that a trend has began to occur. We are slowly losing them.
