Causes of Obesity in America
America is the world’s largest nation, or at least in pant size. People, have become more unhealthy weight wise than ever before. Since 1980 the average weight of American citizens has skyrocketed (Taubes). Children, adolescents, and adults have all fallen under the term obese as the number on the scale rises. 22.5% of America’s population is clinically obese; compared to the 1980s, this is a drastic increase that seems to be stopping no time soon (Taubes). A lot of researchers believe that it is the overweight person 's fault for gaining so much weight. But in reality, in the majority of overweight people, that is not the case. There are many factors that contribute to weight gain. These factors are lack of healthy options, a lack of physical activity, foods being too expensive, a high use of social media, a lack of physical activity, and even an unhealthy image of attractive in the media.
At any grocery store or fast food restaurant there is always a wide variety of food to choose from. A high majority of the choices, however, are not healthy and are filled with empty calories. The reason these fast food companies do not supply their customers with high protein and healthy fats, is because these empty calories leave customers hungry and begging for more food.
