1. Centaur- a creature half man, half horse, symbol of humanity’s divided nature.
2. Chiron- a wise old centaur who tutored several famous heroes, including Jason and Achilles.
3. Apotheosis- the highest point in the development of something; culmination or climax.
4. Perseus- Son of Zeus and Dane, he beheaded Medusa, we Andromeda, and founded Mycenae.
5. Danae- Mother of the hero Perseus, who was sired by Zeus in a shower of gold. Cast into the sea in a chest with her son, Danae was unexpectedly rescued by a fisherman by the will of Zeus.
6. Acrisius- Danae father, King of Argos.
7. Ambivalent- Having mixed feelings or contradictory ideas about something or someone.
8. Seriphus- Island where Perseus was raised.
9. Graiae- Old hags, gray from birth with one eye and tooth.
10. Pegasus- A winged horse that sprang from the blood from Medusa after Perseus beheaded her.
11. Medusa- The only mortal Gorgon, whose terrifying gaze turned men to stone. With Athene’s help, Perseus beheaded her.
12. Chrysaor- Product of Medusa and Poseidon.
13. Andromeda- A maiden chained to a rock as prey for a sea monster. She was rescued by Perseus, who then turned her uncle Phineus to stone by showing him the head of Medusa.
14. Perses- Son of Perseus and Andromeda, he is also the king of Ethiopia.
15. Progenitor- A person or thing from which a person, animal, or plant is descended or originates; an ancestor or parent.
