Sylvia Smith. She is real nice and has already told us about all of the great places to stack up with supplies for the rest of our journey. She knows about everyone in town and told us how to get everything for extra cheap! I am so excited to explore this town. The emigrants wash tub is a great place for us to wash all of our clothes and rest so we can start fresh once we continue our journey to Coos County, Oregon. Mama and Papa have started to make a list of supplies that we need to get while we are in town. They said we need as much food as we can afford, maybe some new clothes, and some bare essentials. Mrs. Sylvia said that I am a great young lady and that I have a great future ahead of me. It really gave me some high self esteem that I will keep for the rest of the trip. SHe also told me that she has met many travelers headed to Portland like us and some have written back to her and told her about their great new lives in Oregon. It really gave me some extra hope for the success of this trip. Mrs. Sylvia and everyone else in this town is so nice I don’t want to leave. I told Mama I wanted to stay but she said there would be nothing we could do in this town to make money so we must continue our journey. I got angry at her when she said no but I forgive her now that I have thought about it more. And I forgot to tell you about how we got across the river. We successfully got across the river but we lost half of our supplies. So, we hurried to a nearby town and stacked up on supplies. Those supplies are almost out so that was why we stopped here at the emigrants wash tub. I hope to see you soon and I miss you dearly! I will write to you the next time I get a chance. I have been pretty busy so I don’t know when I will get the time. I hope I will have a chance
