In some cases, I have heard that some people have regretted not telling a deceased mother or father they loved them even if those parents had abused or hurt them. This parental example defines the misuse of a declaration of love that is based on the fear of death, guilt, and regret, which may not truly reflect how the individual really feels about his or her deceased parents.
