On July 18, 1918 Rolihlahla Mandela was born. Now I know what you are thinking, “I thought his name was Nelson Mandela , why is it Rolihlahla?” Well his given name was Rolihlahla, but while he was in primary school, his teacher named him Nelson because the name was too long and complicated.
The early stages of Nelson’s life were simple for him. They were simple, at least until he turned 12. Nelson’s father died in the year 1930 and entrusted Nelson to Thembu Regent Jongintaba Dalindyebo. After Nelson had accepted his father’s death he enrolled at the University College of Fort hare, but sadly no more than a year after being enrolled, Nelson had been expelled.

He is elected Parliament president of a democratic South Africa. Then later that year writes his first of 3 autobiographies named “Long Walk to Freedom”. Nelson later divorces Winnie Mandela and remarries Graca Machel on his 80th birthday. In 1999 Nelson stepped down from being coming president after one term. He then has many visits to the hospital in his life near the end because of tuberculosis and a new diagnosis of prostate cancer. Nelson wrote his second and third book named, “Conversations with myself” and “Nelson Mandela By Himself: The Authorized Book of Quotations”. In Nelson Mandela’s last few years of life he spent time with his family more. He died on December 5, 2013 at his home in Johannesburg. Nelson Mandela was a wonderful man who did a lot of good things in the world. He fought apartheid, was a great president, and spent years in prison for his country. He impacted the world for the better and on behalf of everyone I thank him. Even if he didn’t do anything for me seeing as how I’m in the United States and this was for South Africa.
