There are many people deserve to be in the History Hall of Fame. One person stands out of that group of people. That person is Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela was a great man who impacted many lives, he deserves to be in the History Hall of Fame. Rolihlahla was born July 18, 1918. His name meant troublemaker. Little did they know he would live up to his name. Rolihlahla changed his name to Nelson. When Nelson was nine his father died. He got adopted by the king which sprouted his love for politics. When the king died he got a foster father named Jongintaba. Luckily his foster father had a son four years older that Nelson, so that helped make Nelson feel more at home. Nelson attended a boarding school in Engcobo. After that he attended Healdtown, a church ran school. Later he went to Fort Hare which was the only black college in South Africa. At college he was apart of the student representative council, but he resigned due to the bad dorms. Four years after he resigned he got married to Evelyn and they had a son, Thembi. He divorced Evelyn in 1958. Later he got remarried to a girl named Winnie. In 1996 he divorced Winnie. In 2005 his son died due to AIDS. On December 5th, 2013 …show more content…
Nelson was put into jail because they thought he committed treason. He was in jail for five months with no charge against him. In the prison he was in, it clearly was discriminated. All of the guards were white and all of the prisoners were black. While Mandela was in prison the protest did not stop. People got angrier and new leaders arose such as Steve Biko. In 1960 a protest turned into a massacre. This is known as the Sharpeville Massacre. This greatly affected Mandela because he knew that it was getting more and more violent.
