Analysis Of A Lab Critique

Improved Essays
Before I went to my lab critique I was pretty nervous. The reason is because, I didn’t want to mess up and also I was nervous about what scenario that was going to get. I mean a lot of people may have felt this way too. But, I knew that I had to be prepared for anything. So, when I to my lab critique, the scenario that I got was basically where the patient had an ankle fracture and I had to help her with getting out of the wheelchair, help her use the crutches, and teach her using the stairs. So, I was thinking ok this isn’t so bad. But, I was still a little nervous. After I finished my lab critique, I was kind relieved that I finished the scenario, especially finishing on time as well. I knew during the lab critique that I did for the most …show more content…
When I got my video, I would say that it was pretty awkward watching my self-doing the lab. My first initial thoughts were ok, I think I did pretty well. Then watching it about a couple of times, I knew that there were some things that I didn’t do so well or didn’t do during the lab critique. After having my one on one review of my lab critique with my teacher, I understood what I did well and what I can improve on. Also, what I could have done to make it better as well. Going through my evaluation of my lab critique, there was definitely a lot things that I needed to improve on. Areas that I needed to improve on were explaining the skills or the treatment more clearly to the patient. Watching my video, I knew I could have done a better job of explaining to the patient much better. For example, giving demonstrations to the patient on how to use the crutches and how to use it on the stairs. If I did this, I knew that it would have helped the patient understand better on the …show more content…
I could have done a better job of explaining the instructions of walking with the crutches. At first I did the wrong step, but I was able to correct it after. But, for the most part I was confused and unsure. Also, during the stairs not using the railing. I was kind of confused about the railing, so I understand why I lost marks on that part. As I said before I was kind of far away in terms of guarding and also I could have done demonstrations which would have helped a lot. In terms of my overall communication, I think that I did a pretty good job in terms of my voice being clear, confident, providing encouragement, etc. In that perspective I felt I did a good job but I could have done a better explaining the skill to the patient as well as providing demonstrations. But, overall my communication was pretty good. In conclusion, I felt that I did an ok job in my lab critique. However, there are a lot of things that I needed to improve on. If I had done some of things or improved some the areas, for sure I would have done a better job. I think that I learned a lot and hopefully looking back at this, I can do a better job of on my next lab critique. The most important thing is that I learn from my mistakes and that this was a great learning experience for

Health and nutrition have been an essential part of life since the beginning of time, but more recently these topics are shared and examined more frequently than ever, especially in America. In Michael Pollan’s article “Our National Eating Disorder,” Claudia Kalb’s “Food News Blues,” and Karin Kratina’s “The Right Thing to Do?” it is made apparent that how we eat may be just as important as what we eat. These three authors make very valid points about American’s obsession with health fads and negative thinking towards many food groups.…

My responsibility for this workshop was to proceed with a handover of a patient to an intern (played by Dr. Michael Adamson). This was a particularly disasterous session. My performance was not only unfit within the scope of academic criteria, but was clearly short of acceptable for a real-world SBAR. During the reading of the scenario I was daunted by the task of having to SBAR report a patient to admission at a hostpital, based on information I was reading for the first time; my practice with the hand-over system was minimal prior to the session.…

I attended the Bertha Strong Stroke Simulation event on March 1, 2016, at the Arizona State University Downtown Phoenix campus held at the Mercado building. I had attended this event in the past thought it would be interesting to compare my experiences. I was surprised to find that my first comparison would be the registration and receipt of materials needed to prepare for the event. It may have been due to familiarity with the process, but the current process seemed more coordinated. The registration process was different; it seems as though the old system had some issues as it has been changed slightly.…

This week in clinical, I was assigned a patient with a nasogastric tube. A NG tube is very painful for the patient if it is slightly moved, so I was a little nervous taking care of this patient. Role Play Reflection Before doing the video, I became somewhat anxious at the thought of being on camera; knowing that I was going to be evaluated did not help my anxiety at all. After all, I am an introvert; even at that I love listening to people talk about their life’s experiences, and love to help them resolve their issues whenever possible. This is one reason I am looking forward to learning more about the social work field. I have always been careful at how much advice I offer a person; even more so now, after this class, because I recognize that if a worker is not prepared to help in the proper way she can do more harm than good to all the parties involved in the process. I am also aware that I am a social work student, and that my…

Today at Simulation Lab I performed health history on a patient. Firstly, I commenced by preparing myself for the interview. Although I was nervous, as a nurse I had to be confident and prepare myself mentally and kept an open mind to meet the patient. In addition to preparing myself, I prepared the environment, making sure seating and arrangement was in place and the room was comfortable and private. Having done this, I utilized Florence Nightingale’s theory of environmental need.…

When the patient was in labor and began pushing, I aided in supporting one of her legs while the nurse supported the other. I think it was truly amazing to see a child being brought into the world. The postpartum care was also a teamwork. While my preceptor was getting the ice pack, I filled the peri-bottle with warm water and placed dry tower on the bathroom floor to prevent falls. I remembered from class lecture to check for clots in the urine because abnormal size (golf ball size) can be concerning.…
