My Journey with Books “Books are my friends, my companions. They make me laugh, and cry, and find meaning in life.” Books have always been there for me. Through all the cheerful triumphs, the sad high school breakups, and the days were I just felt like escaping. My earliest memories as a child, are of me reading. My passion for books began at a very young age. I learned to read at four years old and it opened up a whole new world for me. I became unstoppable. I read anything I could get my hands on. I started with my grandmother’s romance novels. And when I finished that, I started sneaking my Dad’s books at home. My Mom would find me curled up in my closet, just reading away. The summer after I turned 13, I read 48 books. I can still remember my mother saying over and over again, “Go out and enjoy the summer with all of your friends.” But I would just wave her off and keep reading. I returned to school the next year, and bragged to my English teacher about how many books I had devoured. She congratulated me on my accomplishment, and that’s when I knew that I could conquer anything through books. People continue to ask me, “Why do you love books and reading so much,” and I truly believe that there can never be just one answer to that question. But if I had to answer, it would be, that Books quench my thirst for wisdom. I don’t ever want to stop learning. I’ve met people who say that they learned everything they needed to know by the time they graduated. And I have to disagree with that. I want to learn everything. I want my mind exploding with facts. I love that you can learn something new every day. Books continue to help me with my personal growth every day. Reading helps me learn new things, grow and expand my views on life. I believe that books have helped me increase my vocabulary and language skills. They also have made me more open-minded to the things going on in my environment. There are authors writing new books every day and the next book to come out could be better then something I’ve read. But there are some series, I can pick up over and over again, and never find boring. And if that counts as a favorite, then I’ll take it. Those would be: Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, The White Rabbit Chronicles, House of Night Series, the Bloodlines Series, and anything by Sara
