My Journey with Books “Books are my friends, my companions. They make me laugh, and cry, and find meaning in life.” Books have always been there for me. Through all the cheerful triumphs, the sad high school breakups, and the days were I just felt like escaping. My earliest memories as a child, are of me reading. My passion for books began at a very young age. I learned to read at four years old and it opened up a whole new world for me. I became unstoppable. I read anything I could get my hands on. I started with my grandmother’s romance novels. And when I finished that, I started sneaking my Dad’s books at home. My Mom would find me curled up in my closet, just reading away. The mysterious worlds of Dean Koontz and Tom Clancy confused me, and a lot of words had me stumped, but I loved learning new things. I started school the next year and loved everything but reading time. While every other kid was reading Dr. Seuss and Dick and Jane, I was reading Harry Potter and A Series of Unfortunate Events. I was already years ahead of them with no plan to slow down. I finally talked my parents into getting me a library card when I was six and it fueled my fire. My Dad and I would make a trip out of it every Saturday, and it was my favorite day of the week. I loved that shelf after shelf was lined with books, just waiting for someone to come along and pick them up. I would check out the max limit of books and be finished within a few days.
