Was there ever a time you didn’t like to do something, but as you got older you started to love it more than you did as a child? When I was younger, I never liked to read, but now as I have gotten older, I read more and more different kinds of books and novels. My mother put my sister and me into a reading program in elementary school because our reading levels were lower than they should be. There were no criteria so we read books that were interesting to us, like the Given Tree by Shel Silverstein and Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White. When we finished reading them we would go around and talk about the book we read. About our reaction to the book and how we felt towards it. From that day we have been reading more books of different genres.

For me, there is a room with shelves lining the walls in dark brown filled with books piled onto each other of many genres, from historical to mystery. This room is a place where I spend time from the world, filled with furniture of chairs and sofa in warm earth colors of browns and a little bit of green in it. The walls were painted in fallen leaves in the fall to make the room earth warm feeling. This room located at the far back of my family house that overlooks the big open garden in the backyard.
Being able to feel the cool breeze coming through the open window, the open book on the table following the wind as the pages flip one by one. The room gives me the peaceful moment after a long day of being tired all day. As my mother walks in, the room seems that it brightens up and make my day more cheerful to spend in this earthy warm room. Touching the spines of the books with my fingertips, they felt coarse to the touch because of the book being opened up too much made rough lines that go up and down the middle of the spine. To me, it was a good sign that I have read that book very

Just staying in this place makes me feel cozy like I’m wrapped in a big fluffy blanket and the chair is like sitting on a big white cloud even though I don’t know how they actually feel. But the best moment of staying in this room is with my mother. My mother gotten me to open up my eyes to see that there is more to books than just words, that it is our imagination that brings the books to life. “When you picture the place of the setting or the characters in the book, it’s going to be different when others picture it.” is what my mother said to change my way of reading books and guided me to read different books. As I kept spending time in this room with my mother, the peace and quiet smelled like the page of the books. But time have change when time gotten more

Literacy Narrative Essay Learning to look at a page of characters and putting them together to create a story or information in your mind is natural human event in the brain. It comes naturally to most people and is easily developed in adolescent years. For me it was different, reading just didn 't make sense to me so I struggled on every step along the way on becoming a proficient reader. I graduated from kindergarten as a non-reader. I was the eldest child in my family with two younger siblings. My mother was always occupied both with work and with three children under five, so she didn’t realize that there was anything amiss until the summer after my kindergarten year. She recounts how she was shocked and concerned when she found out that all of her friend’s children were already reading. She would tell you that I had not a sight word in my wheelhouse.…

I can feel the heat rising up into my cheeks and beads of sweat forming just at my hairline. Impulsively, I go to wipe them away with the back of my hand only to find there is none to be swept off. I’m not sick, it’s not 1178, I don’t have the plague, it’s a Tuesday evening and I’m sat up in bed reading The Northman’s Bride. I tend to get invested in the books I read that I forget my place in space and time. Especially when I read historical fiction and I get to explore the world from the comfort of my house or the couch at my local Starbucks.…

Bullets of sweat started running down my face as it is my turn to read a page from a book out loud to the class. Although the book was a simple elementary level book, to me it had the complexity of Shakespeare as I looked down at the words. For many kids my age reading skills seemed to come naturally to them, they could read through pages and pages without the slightest flaw. This made me question if there was something wrong with me or if I would ever be able to read as elegantly as others seemed too. If I wanted to be like the other kids it was going to take a lot of hard work and dedication on my part, so over the summer of fourth and fifth grade I did nothing but eat and breathe books.…

My honors English IV teacher one day said that she would love to read a book for the class and that we would love the book and not want to put it down or we would hate the book with a burning passion.…

In all my 10 years of schooling, I have had no greater teacher than that of a book. They are a mighty force, and it is a shame that some would think otherwise. Each and every word alone is useless, but once transformed into sentences, pages, chapters, it’s where the magic lies. Books present us with knowledge, either factual or sentimental, that take root in our minds, and through each thought, slowly shape the way we feel and think about the world around us. How easily they influence us is both incredible and alarming, but nonetheless powerful.…
