My Autobiography

When thinking about what makes me who I am today, I thought of a few major milestones and topics from class that all play a huge part in the person that I have become. I like to think of myself as someone who loves people and just strives to be the best psychologist that I have always dreamed of becoming. I am now someone who is very independent, compassionate, and empathetic with the outside world along with dealing with some internal turmoils, and because of that I am constantly working hard on the things that hold me back in life so I can be the best woman that I want to be. This is due to some of the things that I have had to deal with such as the divorce of my parents at a very young age, the death of a very loved relative, and many other things. Some of the other topics that I have dealt with besides death, is my relationships with family and friends, stress management, my values, fears, hopes, and dreams, and then the struggle of becoming the woman that I want to be. To start out with one of the major things for who I am today, I would have to say my parents divorcing has a lot to do with who I am. My parents divorced when I was 3 and I have mainly lived with my mom all of my 22 years of living. My relationship with my dad when I was younger was great,

I come across as a very happy and carefree person, but I am constantly under stress because of my high expectations and my stubbornness to never fail and never let anybody tell me again that I am a disappointment. Externally I manage stress in a very organized way such as keeping a planner and writing many things down, but on the inside my thoughts are all jumbled. One outlet that I had to deal with my internal stress was by venting to the boyfriend that I had at that specific

When I think about the boy who I was growing up, the young adult I am today, and the man I plan to be in the forthcoming years, one aspect of my life stands out to me far more radiantly than anything else: my culture, my skin, my identity as a Bangladeshi-American. There aren't many clubs or organization for Bangladeshi Americans such as myself. Make no mistake, there are certainly events for Bangladeshis living in the United states, many that I have attended due to various entreaties from my parents. These are event where the only language spoken is one that I barely speak (Bengali), the only music conversed about is that which I don't listen to or understand, and the only events discussed happen in another country that I have spent only a…

There is no single experience that has shaped my life or character, but there have been several seemingly insignificant events that have rolled together to make me who I am today. It’s the simple things like my mother telling me that blue was a color for boys and that my favorite needed to be something girly, like pink or purple. Or when I was five and my mother signed me up for cheerleading because my father said that martial arts was something only boys could do. It was being told by my kindergarten teacher that “boys will be boys” after one of my classmates cut off chunks of my hair. I didn’t realize that this type of behavior was unfair at this age, that would only happen once I was in middle school, where I was sent to the office for dress code violation.…

I begged my friends and teachers to describe me but dismissed them when they said I was something like "creative" or "funny". I was convinced that an essay about such a broad, slightly conceited view of myself would be not only difficult to write but torturous to read. When my mother alongside my brother and I immigrated from Haiti to the United States, I can’t lie and say that although it did give me a chance at a better life I didn’t feel like a piece of my identity was missing. We moved here when I was three months shy of my fifth birthday and I was sent straight to kindergarten not having one clue in the world as to what had happened to the place I had called home for those years before. My mother had forbidden speaking creole in the house and only spoke English to us due to her fear of my brother and I would become ostracized because our accents would strip us of any chance of being true Americans. By the time I finished kindergarten, I had lost my native tongue, although I can still understand bits…

My grandfather was born in Gilroy, California, in 1939. At the age of eight, my grandfather moved to a ranch near the outskirts of Gilroy, where he lived in a one room shack with his mother, brother, and step-father. For seven years, my grandfather lived in that poor shack, where he had to cover the holes in the walls with newspaper or cardboard just to keep warm during the cold winters. Years later, my grandfather decided to make something out of his life, and enrolled at San Jose City college in 1972, and graduated in 1975 with an Associate degree. While enrolled in San Jose City college, my grandfather was offered an internship to work for the Santa Clara county in the investigation program unit.…
