The Olympics have been around for centuries an event that has been life changing for the participants and the countries that get the privilege to host as well. For centuries now, we have gotten to see the evolution of one of the greatest events ever thought of allowing athletes the opportunity to compete at the highest level, while representing their countries proudly. This event would not be what it is today if it weren 't for the Ancient Greeks getting it started in 776 B.C.E. Since getting it start back then, it has evolved into one of the most popular events in the world and continues to evolve with the growing population and fan base that it has gained throughout history. Modern-day Olympics and the Ancient Greek version are vastly different from one another; however they are a few similarities that has helped the Olympics blossom into what we see today. In Ancient Greece the Olympics were a religious festival to honor Zeus and many of the other powerful gods in Greece during that time period (How Much). This is not surprising at all because during that time people did not have much choice in what they were allowed to do and believe because they wanted to please the leader of their country. Although, Today’s Olympics have very little to do with religion, there is a big similarity in that both Ancient Greece Olympics and modern day Olympics both have healthy competition to see who is the best at that sport.
