The career that I picked to investigate was Sports Medicine Physician. The connection that this career has with the field of Exercise and Sport Science is that is deals with sports, hints the title of the career. The job description for this job is to diagnose, treat, and help prevent injuries that occur during sporting events. The job description sounds close to an Athletic Trainer, but they are different. The difference is that Athletic trainers are first aid care treatment for injuries on the field or court. Sports Medicine Physician main concern is the health care of athletes and they can provide surgery to help the situation.

The professional associations that you can join is American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American Council of Exercise, American Medical Association, etc. To be a Sport Medicine Physician you have to obtain a Bachelor’s degree and a Doctor of Medicine Degree (National Center, 2018). Typically, three to four years of undergraduate school and four years of medical school are required, with three to eight years of internships and residency, depending on the area of specialty.
