Michael Jackson had dominated the world as the “King of Pop” in the music industry for the majority of his life (Lewis). Michael Jackson was the epitome of the greatest performer. He had remarkable range and depth which impressed audiences because he was able to convey emotions like no other performer (Lewis). He reached new heights in his career when he released the best-selling album ever in history called, “Thriller”( Biography.com Editors). Paradoxically, Michael Jackson had been the most public and private figure when he was alive; he was a man whom everyone knew and loved. Michael Jackson was a very well-respected role model who had all the wealth and fame a person could ever imagine however, he went from a brilliant performer to a struggling individual after having many errors in his judgement. Hubris is the word that Aristotle uses to describe a tragic hero that has excessive pride in something (Santora). In this situation, Jackson had too much pride to reach out for help because he considered himself to be a role model that could take care of himself (Biography.com Editors). According to BillBoard, Michael Jackson’s family would try to have interventions but Michael Jackson did not want any part of it; he denied he had a drug problem and said he could take care of himself (Deutsch). Michael Jackson had too much pride in his reputation that he could not bare to let the public know that he needed help which demonstrates why he did not get help. Jackson believed that he could control his drug problem all on his own but in the end he failed. When investigators were investigating Michael Jackson’s situation, they concluded that Jackson was addicted to numerous drugs including: anesthetic propofol, lorazepam, diazepam, lidocaine and ephedrine (Deutsch).
