Negative symptoms are symptoms that take away from a person’s personality. These can be confused with other mental illness symptoms like depression. One negative symptom is a person may become very dull. Their voice becomes monotone. They do not show emotion and their face has no motion in it. Even when they do speak they speak very little and are sometimes forced to even communicate. People with schizophrenia with negative symptoms become very depressed and lose any enjoyment they have for life. They cancel their plans or don’t go through with plans they made. Some people stop taking care of themselves so their hygiene decreases dramatically. People that are surrounded by the person that has the negative symptoms of schizophrenia may think they are just being lazy or not wanting to do anything anymore(“Schizophrenia”). Some of the negative symptoms of schizophrenia are lack of emotional expression, lack of interest or enthusiasm, seeming lack of interest in the world, and speech problems.
