DSM-V Information Literacy Exercise As we grow in life, we are all exposed to undesirable circumstances, worries about the future, or stressful situations. According to Anxiety and Depression Association of America [ADAA] (2014a), anxiety disorders affect millions of Americans, however only an estimated one third of the patients suffering from anxiety receive some form of treatment (2014a). A few of the reasons for these statistics are inaccurate representation in the media, misinformation on the importance of seeking treatment, or not being aware of the different treatment options. Any race, gender, or age range can be affected by anxiety. Therefore it is critical to remember anyone can be affected by anxiety (Goldberg, 2014). A small amount of anxiety or worry is normal in every person.…
Biofeedback for Anxiety In American society, anxiety is one of the most prevalent mental health conditions suffered by our population (Brauer, 1999). Though the criteria and classifications of anxiety has changed significantly over the decades, excessive emotional fear and physiological hyperarousal are still the condition’s most recognized attributes (1999). These are also the qualities that biofeedback practitioners target to help patients with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). In fact, biofeedback is a top contending therapy for triggers of anticipated fear.…
An individual should be given a treatment plan with goals to treat anxiety. The treatment plan should occasionally be revisited to tailor the treatment plan to meet the client's needs effectively, characteristics and anxiety level. I was unaware that those who seek treatment, may not have had an understanding of their existing problem. The understanding of anxiety and information on how to deal with anxiety is beneficial for the client to learning the skills to manage it. Psychoeducational interventions such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) with individuals as well as groups.…
It is found in children, adolescents, and adults, anxiety disorders are one of the most common psychological problems. Those who go without any form of treatment have found to encounter long term complications (Miller et al. 2010). Anxiety disorders affect nearly 10% of all children and adolescents (McLoone et al., 2006). Most anxiety disorders are prevalent in a school setting (McLoone et al., 2006). Educators and other leaders should provide students who suffer from anxiety disorders assistance, such as giving those students and their parents ways to achieve treatment, and prevent younger students from developing anxiety disorders.…
Drugs and dietary supplements that are widely used for self-medicating include alcohol, cannabis, psychostimulants, prescription drugs, caffeine, over the counter drugs/supplements, and food. I personally have a tendency to self-medicate when I'm sick. I will take cold and flu meds, pepto bismol, and ibuprofen. I also take vitamins and fish oil daily. However, if I'm too sick and I know it is something serious, I will not hesitate to go to the doctor.…

A survey was created for class of students (12 respondents) with a series of questions about the topic of anxiety. 3 in 4 of the respondents aged 15-16 said that they have experienced anxiety before and 5 in 6 said they know someone with anxiety. 1 in 3 people said they didn’t know how to help someone with anxiety and it was hard for them to ask someone if they’re ok. Sleeping, eating, meditating, physical activity, reading, listening to music, talking to family and friends are all answers for how they calm themselves if they’re feeling anxious with physical activity being the most common.…
I don’t usually like to write personal posts, but I’m making an exception this time around. I’ve dealt with anxiety and depression for a long time. I recall many nights spent as a kid not sleeping because of anxiety. I was never afraid of monsters under my bed, or of the dark. I was anxious over what school would bring the next day, how my future would turn out, and what my existence meant.…
It consisted of recognizing anxious thoughts, modifying the cognitions, role-playing adaptive behaviours, and exposure to the anxiety-inducing situations within the clinic. Chi-square tests and ANOVA tests used to analyze pretreatment data showed no difference in participants. A repeated measure multivariate analysis of variance revealed significant improvement in symptoms in the post-test. Furthermore, multiple regression analyses revealed that higher levels of anxiety in pretreatment predicted greater reduction in symptoms later. Reducing maladaptive coping strategies decreased anxiety only when there was a reduction of self-consciousness; depression was found to have no impact on treatment outcomes.…
While the human body preserves a vast array of emotions, two emotions maintain the power to dominate and elicit formidable responses – anger and anxiety. According to Miller, balm for anger exposes a defusing anger approach: “One way of defusing anger is to seize on and challenge the thoughts that trigger the surges of anger… and the subsequent reappraisals that fan the flames” (Goleman, 2005, p. 62). Obliging to defuse anger, this approach sanctions an individual to grasp and acknowledge the instigator of their anger, prior to acting on the emotions. When an individual acts on their anger, rather than defusing this emotion, they construct irrational decisions, which could trigger regret. It is in anger that individuals commit crimes, embrace…
The majority of people suffering from anxiety and depression go a considerable amount of their lives undiagnosed. What triggers them to seek treatment is often not that they are having mental health problems, but physical health problems that have been brought on by their disorders. If the illness goes undiagnosed for too long it will generate an assortment of complications that can lead to the sufferer being buried under a myriad of medications. This spiraling effect can make the diagnoses feel out of control. Though the predominance of doctors will provide treatments to deal with the symptoms of anxiety and depression after the fact, the best way to go about correcting these problems is to stop them at the start.…
