Wagner states, “Religious dialogue has in some ways been transformed in recent years… and networking technologies make it possible, in ways unimaginable a hundred years ago, for people to interact with others around the world and learn about their traditions, values and beliefs” (Wagner 99). Without the use of the media it would be a challenging task to spread religious beliefs to community’s other than your own. The individuals of the evangelistic movement highlight their beliefs in their online sermons that people can watch from all over the world. The preacher in the online sermon I watched, related issues in today’s world with the bible verse he had in mind. He also was preaching off of an IPad he had sitting on a table next to him. In today’s society, it seems that 24 hours is not enough hours in a day. The increase in commitments that people have in their lives make it harder and harder to make it to church for a few hours one day. With the convenience of watching it in your own home, it is easier to be able to practice the religion on your own time. It is astonishing to think that what once use to be practiced in a sacred place in a very strict formality, is now being streamed live on the internet. The use of social media and the media can easily diminish the true meaning of what is being said in the bible because it has become so mainstream. In the sermon I watched online, the end of the service was wrapped up with a full band of drummers, guitar players and singers preforming a hymn. The hymns and bible both originated as holy and sacred but are now being performed by a rock band. Wagner expresses the weird fascination that we can download a bible app on our Iphones and Ipads and leave it next to a game like Angry Birds (103). It’s very strange that the authenticity can be stripped as soon as you place the app next to a fascinating game. The website and other sorts of media are beginning to diminish the real meaning of attending a mass or reading the
