The media, or press, has a critical impact on the political system in the United States. Television news reaches more Americans than any other single news source. (Ginsberg) Reporters distribute information about world chaos throughout the day over the news. Over 95 percent of Americans have television. (Ginsberg) Media plays a huge role in politics when it comes to campaigning. The United States uses media to communicate in three different types of ways, which being, broadcast media, print media, and internet. (Boundless Learning)
Their political influence extends far beyond newspaper reports and articles of a direct political nature, or television shows connected with current affairs that bear upon politics. (Hardcastle) When there are major issues going on in the world people are sure to hear about it on TV. In a much more subtle way, they can influence people 's thought patterns by other means, like "goodwill" stories, pages dealing with entertainment and popular culture, movies, TV "soaps", "educational" programs. (Hardcastle) The newspaper now can be seen on the internet.TV shows like “Scandal” shows a different side of politics and what goes on in the White House sometimes.
Broadcast media consist of radio and television. Radio plays a huge role in broadcast media. Radio is basically the headline news without pictures. (Ginsberg) Short time amount of that the radio devotes about 5 minutes per hour to the news. (Ginsberg) The radio advertises for candidates when they are supporting someone’s campaign. The Steve Harvey Morning Show on the radio station 107.5 is advertising about the campaign that’s going on currently for Michelle Nunn, Nathan Deal, and Jason Carter. Also when it comes to television, advertising for campaigns such as Michelle Nunn’s is constantly being talked about working with terrorist and Obama. Advertisements that discredits politicians, such as the one that talks about Jason Carter not caring about the education system, causes politicians to lose voters and endorsements. Nathan Deal’s wife is all about the education system which gives him an advantage in the views of citizen. Michelle Nunn’s campaign strategy promotes women right to equal pay which results in women vote. So the political advertising constantly bashes each of the political candidates. As an American we have the say so in who is elected in our government. Most of the opinions citizens have on elected officials are gathered from the media. It can easily be said that most Americans has access to at least one source of media, yet political knowledge is remarkably low.3 Not everyone has access to a computer or TV. Although political information is available through the proliferation of mass media, different critics support that events are shaped and packaged, frames are constructed by politicians and news casters, and ownership influences between political actors and the media provide important short hand cues to how to interpret and understand the news. (Boundless Learning) Another form of media which is also the oldest and least popular source is printed media. Although print media is the least popular it affects social media and broadcast media in the political systems. The broadcast media relies on the major newspapers like the New York Times and the Washington Post to get their news agenda. (Ginsberg) New York Times is a major news companies that provides a lot of information about political candidates. President Clinton’s affair with the White House intern was first mainstream media by Washington Post and Newsweek. (Boundless Learning) That whole affair got president Clinton impeached. Over the past 20 years the New York Times had dropped over 10 percent from 2010 to 2011. (Ginsberg) The year 2011 New York Times lost 25 percent of the profits. (Ginsberg) …show more content…
(Ginsberg) The 9/11 attack scared Americans so bad this violence opened more citizens’ eyes to pay more attention to the news. News of widespread political unrest in Iran after allegations of rigged national elections in 2009 was disseminated to the outside world mostly by Internet-based forms of communication, including Internet video, blogs, and Twitter messages. (Ginsberg) Some younger people use YouTube more now to keep up with the news which is another source of internet media. Some people even use websites MSN as well to possess the
