"I have a dream...", said Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; a phrase that rings upon the ears of every descending generation. Dr. King was a highly educated activist who lived amongst a family of pastors with a strong Christian faith. He lived in a region where discrimination was highly concentrated and where white people segregated themselves from blacks or "negroes". This region was the state of Georgia, specifically in Atlanta. In fact, "Martin Luther attended segregated public schools in Georgia, graduat[ed] from high school at the age of fifteen; he received the B.A. degree in 1948 from Morehouse College..." In addition, he was elected to be president of this seminary amongst a group white senior men ("The Noble Peace Prize, 1964", 1). Later, he earned his doctorate degree from Boston University in 1953. As he finally accomplished his educational goals, he met his future wife who was also studying in Boston but at a different university that focused primarily in the arts. Her name was Coretta Scott. After several years of courting, they moved back to Atlanta, and were wedded there ("Martin Luther King, Jr.", 1). As a highly educated theologian, Dr. King "became [the] pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church" ("Martin Luther King, Jr.", 1). Sadly, political uprisings and discrimination against "negroes" began to intensify and become more critical than ever. Dr. King, as a highly skilled leader, took ownership and responsibility to fight for what is right for his people, along all of those who are being discriminated against.
