With Mark’s worldwide social network creation, he became a billionaire, which would have been expected of him to spend the money selfishly, on luxury. However, Mark was different in the sense of the plan he had in mind of how the money would be distributed for important causes. Mark and his wife made the decision to “distribute 99% of their Facebook shares, which is equivalent to $45 billion,” to the cause of human advancement because they anticipated the potential that was to come for future generations if current lives stand up to make a difference (The Verge). The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is a company that will "pursue its mission by funding non-profit organizations, making private investments and participating in policy debates,” with the mission of impacting areas of desperate needs (The Verge). The initiative letter was written to Mark’s son, with two goals destined to accomplish, which include “advancing human potential and promoting equality” (The Verge). Mark’s first goal of advancing human potential would be met by “pushing boundaries on how great human life can be,” which may include the advancement of available resources and opportunities (The Verge). Whereas, the second goal focuses on empowering the overlooked groups, as the letter reads, it is society’s liability to not work for the lowest, but “for the greatness of human progress” (The Verge). Not much success was provided in the creation of Facebook, as it started with News Feed and Mini-Feed, which was intended to provide information to the social world. Zuckerberg did a poor job giving the control to the people using the social network. He soon realized that the people wanted control over what they could post and who has access to these posts. In an Open Letter from Mark, he expresses his concerns and apologizes about his mistakes in the process of releasing Facebook. Mark learned from the many mistakes that he made in starting up his websites, such as sorting out the privacy control policies, so that now a personally selected group of people have to ability to view the differing stories that are posted. Through his tutors, studying, and creativity, Mark was able to create produce a social network that kept everyone in touch around the world, as it went global. Through Mark’s efforts in creating this network, he experienced many failures. He started with the creation of FaceMash, which became so excessively used that the network crashed, and he was turned in for disciplinary action. He did not give up though, and Mark’s co-founder had just as much faith in him as the rest of Harvard did. Mark and Facebook’s CEO did not let the mistakes and failures get …show more content…
Mark Zuckerberg made the mistake of creating FaceMash because he was publicly asserting photos onto the internet without permission, and the website crashed instantly as it became overused by Harvard students. The creation of FaceMash was not only setting the basis for the invention of Facebook, but he also learned from the mistakes of publicly abusing photos without permission. Following the FaceMash internet crash and accusation of public photos, Zuckerberg began coding a new website called “theFacebook.com,” which led to Harvard students accusing him of stealing their ideas when he was working with them to create the website, HarvardConnection.com. A lawsuit was called upon Zuckerberg’s misleading promises, and an agreement was settled between Mark and the three students. Although Zuckerberg was able to complete his project, successfully, it took much time, effort, and many failures to have full confidence in the creation of this
