The films that I’m focusing on for class were Winter’s Bone and The Social Network. The topic that I’m focusing on is how even though the main characters of these films are relatively the same age and they both come across problems throughout but Mark is much more capable of accessing his resources so he’s able to overcome the obstacles.This problem appears in life all around us also. People are faced with challenges in all types of social classes but the people with more money and resources are able to overcome them in an easier way compared to people living in poverty. Also another theme that comes up in these movies is gender roles, and that people look at them differently will treat Mark and Ree in different manners based on their sex. He’s a Harvard student that starts off by treating women in a poor fashion by the way he treated his girlfriend. Then immediately after they break up he starts a website judging girls based just on the fact of how they look. Then after that, Mark is suspended from his academics for a year. This is what started the social network that Mark created that transformed into a website just for Harvard students making it for high class to separate each other. But this then transformed into a website for everybody to broaden the website and be able to make more money off it. But this didn’t come without the ideas of the creators of the Harvard Connection, which they had said that he had intentionally stolen the ideas from him. This caused a major lawsuit that Mark had to face which he was able to overcome because of his wealth and resources so it wasn’t a major problem for him. This same thing also happens with his friend and business partner that he takes out of the equation and he was able to pay him off easily as well due to his
