As she was growing up the reporter asked Marcia if she agreed with segregation at the time. She responded saying “I did not know what was actually happening because I was still 10-12 years old, it was not until high school she actually understood what was going on and the meaning of it.” She explained how she was young and did not know it was even happening. Marcia says, “I had a friend named Dug, he was black. My mom would get angry and tell me to come in the house.” Her mom told her to go in the house because her mother was raised that way. Marcia said after segregation was over her mom came around eventually. “My mom came around and had black friends when she adjusted.” Marcia spoke about her mother because her mother was a large reason why she did not understand it, she explained how “My mom would always tell me to get in the house, she was angry about something but at the time I had no idea what. But after segregation was over she came around and actually had black friends.” When Marcia was a child she didn’t understand what was going on, but she discusses what her mother would tell her in her
