This first part of the essay will focus on the main differences between the headlines. The headline is one of the most important feature in journalese style, as its main aim is to attract the reader's eyes, in order for them to pause, think, and maybe read through the article after all. The headline of the article has an informative and attractive function. “It [the headline] should, in theory, encapsulate the story in a minimum number of words, attract the reader to the story and, if it appears on the front page, attract the reader to the paper.” (Reah, 1998:13). Something worth noticing about the header of the first text is the fact that it does not mention the terrors attacks even though an entire paragraph of the article is revolving around them. On the other hand, the title of the blog post does not mention them either, but unlike the article, there is only one line of the post dedicated to them. Concerning the first text, Hicks says, in order to be effective, the style of a newspaper article must have “four principal attributes: suitability, simplicity, precision and poise.” (1998:59). The use of direct, active verbs such as “celebrates”, “climbed” or “pays” are tools of suitability while the short, simple, everyday life vocabulary is used for simplicity. On another hand, Myers explains that “Blogs are defined by what they link to and how they link” (2010:28) rather than by a precise, well-defined style of writing. In this particular example, however, there is no links to other posts inside the text itself, but the web page is full of
