Main Causes of World War 1
There are a lot of things that factor in when discussing what caused World War 1. The main causes of World War 1 was; militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism. Some things that led to these factors was the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. His assassination triggered the outbreak of WWI. After his assassination is when Austria declared war on Serbia. Nationalism was also another cause. Nationalism encouraged the public people to support military buildups. The alliances would force a country to go to war against a nation that they had no dispute with. The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and the triggering of WW1 began on June 28th, 1914 when the Archduke’s car was fired upon by a Serbia assassin. This triggered World War 1 because it would start rebellion and then making people rebel against Austria. In document B, The Crime of the Ages, Who was it?, is a cartoon showing the countries to blame and the causes for the war. These alliances were formed for protection. Although the alliances guaranteed protection, the alliances also brought some dangers. When war came that meant that multiple nations had to fight, alliances also made countries go to to war with other countries that they had no dispute with. The military build up began in 1890 and lasted until 1913. Europeans began to build up their military powers. The main reason for the military buildup was nationalism. Because of nationalism, each and every country wanted to always be better and so then they wanted to perfect their military power. Document A is a map showing the countries who had alliances. Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy had a triple alliance. Since some countries were better than others, people from one country would trade sides and go to another country.
