Madonna is among the greatest piece of art in history, to an extent that Raphael was inspired by earlier pieces of Madonna done Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Raphael short art career lasted for just 20 years. He who was a long-term admirer of Leonardo’s was inspired by his earlier version of Madonna and Child with Saint Anne piece and Michelangelo. Although his own style can be recognized. For instance, in Madonna of the Meadow by Raphael, he absorbed the pyramidal grouping which was so characteristic of Leonardo’s compositions. The paper seeks to show distinction and comparisons between the two pieces and the reason Raphael to do a rendition of Leonardo’s piece. The paper will look at finer comparisons that may be overlooked earlier documentation.
Madonna of Meadow is Raphael’s work that has a personal resonance. The painting also highlights its rich history that begins with its creation, destruction and finally its restoration. The earth blossoms with dainty flowers: the fair blue sky above is reflected in the placid surface of the lake. From its shores rise gently undulating hills. In the foreground of the painting sits the virgin with two charming children at her knee. From the above description, we see the difference between Raphael and Leonardo. the latter is always mysterious and subtle; whereas the latter is frank and ingenious.
