It’s absolutely appalling. Doctors that are providing treatment for Lyme patients are being stopped by the Australian government just for helping these poor people try to claim their lives back from this dreadful disease. Other doctors refuse to treat those with this illness either because they also deny its existence or they fear being reprimanded by the Australian Medical Association – which has happened to two Doctors I know of recently – one in Western Australia and one in Queensland. Why don’t Lyme disease sufferers deserve to be treated? Why don’t they get to live normal lives just like the rest of us do? Why should this type of equality even be an issue in today’s society? Why is it that most patients are treated for their illnesses but not Lyme disease patients? Lyme disease desperately needs to be recognised and treated in our country. According to the Australian values statement form published by the Australian Government, Australia is a country where the values of “equality under the law” and “a spirit of egalitarianism that embraces mutual respect, tolerance and compassion for those in need” are so important, how can the Australian Government be so heartless as to watch on as these poor people suffer right under their noses? Anyone anywhere could get this dreadful disease. If you contracted this terrible illness, were suffering from severe seizures, excruciating migraines and pain so agonizing that you couldn’t even get out of bed, wouldn’t you want
