very ill. The plague had run rampid throughout their hometown, and it struck his parents as well.
Lucksian was a good son who took care of his parents during their illness. He tried very hard to
save them, but to no avail. They grew weaker by the day. The last words spoken by his mother
was, “You are such a good boy, Lucksian. Great honor will come to you. On the day of your

Most looked away from
the disheveled, skinny boy in the tattered clothing with the sun burnt face, almost as if he were
invisible. Very rarely, a coin or two would be thrown his way. Those coins brought welcome
relief to his grumbling stomach. You see, Lucksian didn’t need much. He lived in the forest,
where he made himself a soft bed of fallen leaves. He just needed a morsel or two each day to
sustain him.
One morning as he rose with the sun, he noticed a four leaf clover next to his make-shift bed. He
plucked it from the ground and tucked it behind his ear. As he headed out of the forest on his
way to the Acropolis for his daily routine of begging, he stumbled across something poking out
of the ground. It was a rabbit’s foot. Lucksian thought that was very odd, but he picked it up
and slipped the rabbit’s foot in his pocket in the hopes that perhaps he could barter it for a scrap
of food. Outside of the Acropolis, a chariot of horses came speeding by. As the dust settled,
