The Importance Of Reporting Wrong Doings In The Workplace

In learning about laws and the work place I feel like I have gotten more clarity as to what my options are in reporting wrong doings. I have experienced wrong doings in just about every job I have had. My first job was the only one that I have ever gone through the process of reporting something to the higher ups. I had a guest come to me and my coworker and make sexual jokes about us. At first we called a male coworker to come over hoping that would stop him however the guest continued so we told our manager who reported it to the security and we had to file a report and they made sure we were okay and told us they were trying to prevent the man from entering the premises again. At my third job I brought up to my manager that I was a minor and that she was scheduling me or keeping me past the legal time she was allowed to and her response was to tell me it was necessary. After that occurred my mother went to corporate and filed a complaint. The manager was given no disciplinary action but the …show more content…
When it comes to potential legal situations you have a responsibility to both your employer and your coworkers in keeping the company from causing harm to its employees or guests in any way. While every company has their own policy about how to report incidents it is up to the employees to follow through with those policies. If I have a problem in the future I will make sure I know who to contact for those incidents. Now that I know I cannot be fired for filing a complaint, I will make sure to report every incident I deem fit. The only thing I am still not entirely certain on is how to handle wage discrimination or issues since many companies prevent their employees from talking about wage. However, as we discussed in class this is a tricky subject because of these policies. In the future when I am higher up in a company I will be sure to watch out for my employees in order to eliminate
