Abstract
Gandhi was a successful and charismatic leader. He contributed towards India’s Independence though movements such as Satyagraha and Dandi march during the twentieth century. His principles were inspirational and logical. He followed ahimsa or non-violence and was always truthful. The following paper reflects his leadership traits and characteristics, followed by a brief discussion about his leadership assessments and leadership qualities. Introduction Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was the youngest son of Kaba Gandhi and his fourth wife, Putlibai. He was born at Porbandar, India on 2nd October 1869. Accordingly to Jung Typology assessment, he would be an extrovert, intuitive, thinking, and judging. He was always open to knowledge and thoughts from his followers, truthful, and very friendly. He believed in non-violence, which meant harm should not be done to any living creature physically or emotionally. He gave high importance to feelings; however, he carefully analyzed and planned all his strategies, lest they would not be so successful. He never displayed a dominant style of leadership. On a DISC assessment, he would show low dominance and high steadiness and compliant features. He lived with his followers in an ashram, showing his sociable, and open-minded nature (Khoshoo & Tata Energy Research Institute, 1995). His revolutions inspired millions, and led to India’s Independence. This requires careful planning and tactfulness.
