Lawyer and Lawyer v. City of Council Bluffs, Iowa
The case of Timothy LAWYER and Michael Lawyer, Plaintiffs, v. CITY OF COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA was very interesting. Once this learner reviewed the video she understood the law, but also understood the Lawyers fear as well. This case went from bad to worst in the worst way.
Lawyer and Lawyer
Lawyer and Lawyer, two brothers about 17 and age 23 were pulled over for a traffic stop in regards to speeding on the 26th of March, 1999, at about 2am. The officer approached the car and this is where the nightmare begins when the LEO by the name of John Clark asked then do they know how fast they were going, and asked what was the hurry since they were doing 85 in a 55 mile zone. The whole incident

This learner can relate to fear on a dark road, being stopped by an officers and having them shine a light in the vehicle and then start asking questions. The fear for the Lawyers brothers started with the stop, and then the question of what was in the red pouch, next the demand to see what was inside the back and lastly them stating over and over again they do not trust the officer and would only sign the citation on their car not the officers. The other side of the coin the Officer increased their fear by calling another officer, hitting them with pepper spray and pulling them out of the car and telling them they are going to jail right now since they were interfering with his duty to fulfill his …show more content…
On the flip side, I really think the officer could have found a way to see how scared those boys were and still protect himself with back up and not use so much pepper spray continuously on the boys, but to them I guess when they do their job so much they forget that a lot of individuals fear the police especially on a dark non lit highway. That would be too much to understand since ordinance is ordinance. This learner thinks if there could have been a medium point the boys would have signed the citation and went on their merry way and this case would have never been filed, but that is just my personal perspective.

These days, and most likely since the start of the need for correctional officers, there have been a power of abuse problem. I believe any use of violence towards a prisoner for the correction officers fun and games should be counted as cruel and unusual punishment. There is a difference between use force to break up a fight/maintaining order and beating the crap out of an inmate simply because they are seen as lowlife to the officer. I am happy that Keith Hudson, with the help of the Supreme Court, found justice. Whatever career I found in law enforcement, I will do all that I can to never be that corrupted one.…

The student refused to leave the classroom upon the officer’s request so the officer flipped the student backwards in her desk and threw her across the floor. Strain theory goes with this case because of the strains on the police during the time period then incident happened. This occurred sometime after the Eric Garner incident in Staten Island. With the reemergence of the Black Lives Matter movement and the bad connotations of the police being displayed through social media and all media outlets, the police former was getting the short end of the stick. Stress was being put on them to uphold the law, but heavy stipulations were put on that. When you are given restrictions for your job that you aren’t used to it can cause a strain on your psyche.…

Being a police officer comes with great responsibilities. They are expected to maintain law and order, protect the lives of citizens, reduce fear of crime and most importantly prevent crime. But in the past few years, it seems as if they’re the ones putting fellow citizens in fear. Police brutality isn’t a topic you frequently hear about, but the times we do it’s nothing short of a serious problem. I’m not sure if it’s to do with race or just about the law enforcement agencies believing they can abuse the power that is a privilege to them.…
