When a child grows up, it goes through various speaking phases. At the beginning he/she starts With " goo goo" And " gaa gaa" and later it is able to say the actual words. Frankenstein's monster could possibly attain how to speak the same way a child does. Thanks to the understanding of language acquisition, there is a possibility that the monster could have an actual conversation with anyone. Taking into consideration language acquisition, language development theories, and human interaction, there is a possibility the monster could learn to speak perfectly. The theory of language acquisition is that human beings learn to speak and read through other humans. This theory talks about how a person isn't conscious about learning a language, they just have a feel for what is right and what is wrong (Li, 24). This theory works alongside with the development of Phonemes and Syntax. Susanne Flynn and Wayne O'Neil are Professors of Foreign Languages and Linguistics. They worked together to better understand Linguistic Theory and to prove its credibility. They state that " Language is intimately linked with other cognitive domains and as such mirror interplay of psychological, cultural, and social." ( Flynn, O'Neil, 43). What they are trying to explain is that learning a new language is just copying. A person has to hear the language and then throughout the time, they will be able to speak it themselves. They do face difficulty such as learning the new rules, syntax, of the new language. The reason that Linguistic Theory is the most famous is that it is supported by neuroscience and psychological studies. Frankenstein's Monster could have learned to read and speak simply by the "natural way." He has a working mind that works. In the book, the author tells the reader that the monster was able to maneuver around and feel emotions. The author describes him as full of emotion and able to move around (Shelly). Noting that the monster brain is working, it is plausible that the monster could learn to speak and read. But once again this theory could be debunked because, in order for the monster to be able to learn, he must first hear people speaking the language. Since Frankenstein's monster was put in isolation, this theory could not help him learn to communicate. If Frankenstein's Monster were put in a modern time period he could have maybe attained using maybe a phone. But he was stuck in an earlier time so there was no way he could have learned.
