798. They found how many protons it has, 36. They found how many neutrons it has, 48. They also sound the number of electrons, 36. Then last but not least the gave it a symbol (Kr) and an atomic number of 36. Krypton was originated from a Greek word: Kryptos-- which meant “hidden.” After a series of test, the chemist came to understand that despite the amount and how rare it was, krypton was actually one of the heavier elements. It holds a density of 0.003733 g/cm3. On continuation, they found that its melting point is -251.25oF (157.36oC) and its boiling point is -243.80oF (153.22oC). They even found that is has thirty seven isotopes. Also when placed under an electrical current, krypton glows a grayish color. Fun, I know. It seemed pretty much harmless, for 0.0001% of Earth’s atmosphere is made up krypton. It is colorless and odorless and hardly reacts with anything but fluorine. Later, the gas was put to good use in fluorescent light which were made to conserve energy. It doesn’t stop there with lighting; it also made a gateway to advance in high-speed photography. Krypton- fluorine could even be used to help make some lasers. But because the gas was so scarce, the number of uses for it were low, yet manufacturers still found uses for it such as sealing the gas in double pane windows to trap …show more content…
Otherwises, it is still very harmless. Krypton is known as a rare gas foe it takes up so little of the Earth. Even so, it still has amazing features such as being able to become a liquid. With all this, it is still one of the more simple of the elements, you could almost call it humble. So what significance does this shy element have? It has a full outer electron shell making it the heaviest most stable element on the periodic table. It is pretty much deemed redundant, but you have to admit that is a very strong element. Its main use for us are the lasers and the lights.
Speaking of lasers, (hint to Superman’s laser vision), why was krypton chosen to star as a home planet of the all mighty Superman? This was first referenced in 1938 when Superman was first thought of to be this all powerful being as the story plot changes to where he is normal on Krypton, but because of the air, hence the weight, when Superman was sent to Earth, he gained powers because the gravity was in fact lighter than he is normally used to. Although, the planet is Krypton and holds the features of krypton, kryptonite is completely different. It is a crimson red, green, or black and has different properties than the actual element. It is actually a
