It is important to note that the trend in skills focus have been primarily ‘hard’ skills rather than ‘soft’ skills. However it is important to comprehend that computer literacy skills only started evolving within this era. As procurement professionals began using computers in their day-to-day operations, therefore the use of computers became an essential requirement.
Giunipero and Pearcy, 2000: In the new millennium, the evolution of the procurement function reached a milestone. It became entrenched as a broader academic interest aroused to determine important purchasing skills. This study identified 29 skills, to be the most important to the procurement function. From this list a seven skill cluster was developed to illustrate the comprehensive skills required to be a ‘World-class purchasing professional’.
