King Louis XVI, born August 23, 1754, was the last King of France and he wasn't a particularly strong leader. Although he’s one of the most famous monarchs in the 18th century who went down in history, he miserably failed at his job. The kings before him, Louis XIV and Louis XV, put the country in debt and the unemployment dropped to 50%. He was a beloved king at the beginning of his reign, but as he made more decisions he slowly became a despised king. His people stormed the Bastille to show a defiance towards him, his family got charged with treason, and he was guillotined by his people on January 21, 1793. Those are only a few things that should prove that he wasn't a very great leader.

He wanted to help his subjects, but he wasn’t all too interested in getting rid of the debt in France, which resulted in him doing whatever it took to avoid his kingly duties which would involve hunting and making locks. He, instead, took advice from financial advisors that the people of France didn’t agree with whatsoever. He had also borrowed money from the court until 1786, when the borrowing limit was reached. When Louis made a decision himself, it would often lead to public turmoil. No man appeared less like a king than King Louis XVI. He wasn’t a confident man, and it’s shown that through the choices he made and almost all of them were persuaded by Marie Antoinette, his wife. He didn’t believe that he could do it so he didn’t actually attempt to do it at any point during his reign. The price of bread and flour were going up drastically.
