Plastic surgery is difficult to define specifically where it has a number of key

characteristics, said by The Plastic Surgery Report. Surgical and non-surgical techniques are

involved to reshape the normal structure the body. Consumers begin an innermost characteristic

of plastic surgery to improve their self-esteem and appearance. As a result of medical need, other

medical procedures are performed for therapeutic reasons. However, it is difficult to define the

procedures performed for therapeutic reasons from those that are performed for cosmetic basis.

In appearance, subjective nature of judgements about development is another vital feature. Low

Based on a review conducted by Honigman et al. (2004) that was of 37 retrospective

Plastic Surgery

and prospective studies published from 1960 to 2002, reasons for plastic surgery includes pre-

operative and postoperative measures of psychological outcomes such as distress, body image,

self-esteem, mood, social confidence, social interaction, and quality of life.

Plastic surgery covers a wide variety of surgeries that change appearance. This term

includes a wide range of reconstructive surgeries, which attempt to replace or repair congenitally

malformed, damaged, or amputated areas of the body. On the other hand, another subcategory of

plastic surgery is cosmetic surgery, which is more or less in the same division. Cosmetic surgery

refers to surgery chosen primarily for appealing reasons or in hopes that one will become more

socially acceptable. Plastic surgical procedures more than 223 000 in the year 2003 were

Plastic Surgery

Besides that, liposuction is another plastic surgical procedure that carries a serious

potential risk. The most important risks include infection, damage to skin, nerves, or vital organs,

fat or blood clots that can migrate to the lungs, leading to death, and excessive fluid loss that can

lead to shock or death. In addition, the different techniques are associated with complications

such as skin or deep tissue damage, lidocaine toxicity, and fluid accumulation in the lungs.

Studies suggest that most patients were satisfied with the outcome of plastic surgeries

that they have undergone and felt better about their self and this is especially in the case for

women undergoing reduction mammoplasty. Most of the improvement includes "self-worth",

"self-esteem", "distress and shyness" and "quality of life. All those who agree to participate in

such research, and oblige with pre- and post-intervention interviews, represent a
