The second approach to technology and society is that society shapes technology. This uses the ideas of Karl Marx’s analysis that has been used to uncover the extent to which technologies of production have been the means in the class struggle. Karl Marx studies the social and moral problems in a capitalist system. He believes that the history of society has to do with class struggles. One thing he focuses a lot on is communism. Communism is when the society looks out for each other to develop something that will help benefit everyone, and help the society. He believed that the problem of modern society was the structures of capitalism and that material processes, relationship, conflicts and contradictions that were responsible for the social problems and social change. Marx’s main idea is the means of production which means that this idea leads to class based on domination and subordination. This is the idea of owning more than someone else does based on your class. This also explains the idea that people with money have bigger opportunities to acquire the new technology which enables them to acquire even more wealth. It is more possible now for a group of inexperienced people to really succeed in jobs on the digital scale. This could be partly a good thing and partly a bad thing. A lot of inexperienced people might be getting jobs because of the new technology but, some big jobs are also loosing people and replacing them with machines or robots. This is called technological unemployment. Human labor can become irrelevant as robots and new technologies take over the world, an example of this is Uber. People don’t have to have experience to work for Uber all the person needs is a phone and a car. The same thing goes for AirBnb all the person needs is a phone and a house.
