The scarlet letter is well known for its dark tone and characters. It’s also pretty well known for its many themes. One of the Themes that have seemed to pop out and appear a lot throughout the scarlet letter and the other texts we covered would have to be Justice and Judgement. From the beginning of the scarlet to letter to right about the end many example of this theme are shown. In fact, justice and judgment seems to be a very important and main theme throughout the puritan culture. First of all, they seem to be very serious in what they consider sin. Most of what they do is revolved around what they can’t do. As said the Sermon “Sinners in the
Hands of Angry God”, “God dangles you over a pit of fire like a spider on a thin strand of thread”. (Johnathan Edwards 7) This single line basically sums up just about everything I’ve learned about puritanism.
