Innocent or Guilty? How is it that to this day a killer has not been found in the murder of JonBenet Ramsey? Twenty years has past, and nothing conclusive has come about to bring peace the Ramsey’s. JonBenet was a six year old beauty queen from Boulder, Colorado. On December 25th, 1996 the little girl was found murdered in the basement of her family home. Her body was found just a mere eight hours after her mother reported her missing to the police. She was found in the basement by her father, John. The cause of death was a blow to the head and strangulation. There was a ransom note found on the staircase of the family’s home. The two and a half page note appeared to be from a ‘foreign faction’ and requested $118,000 in return for the safe return of their daughter.

The body of JonBenet was found on the ground with a white blanket over top of her, a nylon cord around her neck, duct tape over her mouth and her arms tied above her head. There were ligature marks around her neck from a garrote. Around the marks from the garrote, were half- moon or crescent shapes that may have been from JonBenet trying to get the garrote from off her neck. The child suffered a skull fracture from a blunt object which resulted in a brain hemorrhage. It is unsure if the blow to the head or the strangulation occurred first. The crescent shaped nail marks could indicate the strangulation occurred first since she would have to be conscious to fight back. In the girl’s underwear, there was a mixed blood sample and from it the forensic investigators could establish a DNA profile. The sample belonged to an unidentified male. There are also some unknown marks on her body, believed to perhaps come from a stun gun. In the end, the autopsy reported stated that the cause of death was asphyxiation due to strangulation associated with cranio-cerebral
