Tragically in recent years, thousands of innocent children have been kidnapped, tortured and murdered. Their stories have still been a mystery till this day. However their cases have made a huge impact on our current laws. Many people have gotten upset with the local law enforcement, some cases have lasted years without any information about the victim. After many cases of failed rescues, parents and concerned citizens decided to warn residents in the immediate area to be on the lookout for the suspect and the child who has been kidnapped. A program called “America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response”, which was started in 1996. Adam was kidnapped at a Sears store in Hollywood, Florida, when his mother told him to go play with the video games while she looked for lamps. When she went back to look for him, he was gone. Security had the whole store on lockdown but Adam was never found. Two weeks later on the evening of August 10, 1981, two fishermen found Adam decapitated in a drainage canal near St. Lucie County, Florida. His severed head was the only thing found. “Using the recovered head, the coroner ruled that the cause of Adam Walsh’s death was asphyxiation and that the decapitation had occurred after death, perhaps to render his remains unidentifiable” (Wikipedia). The murderer, Ottis Toole, confessed of murdering Adam, but was never convicted of his murder because of the lack of evidence. Toole had other charges against him which led him to end up in prison and later died of liver failure. “On December 16, 2008, police announced that the Walsh case was closed as they were satisfied that Toole was the murderer” (wikipedia). His death was so impacting that it earned national publicity which ended up becoming a movie called Adam in 1983.
