Introduction
Jean Piaget theorized a model for Cognitive development. Before examining and describing my experiences from observing a class from Beverley Hills girls, a brief understanding of Jean Piaget?s theory on cognitive development must be made. Simply put, Piaget theorizes that children are prevented in learning certain concepts relative to their development stage (Woolfolk & Margetts, 2016, p. 80). Piaget argues that thought processes change over time, depending on certain factors and the stage of cognitive development a child has reached (Woolfolk & Margetts, 2016, pp. 81-82). Piaget models cognitive development into four stages;

Sensorimotor (0-2 years)
Preoperational (2-7 years)
Concrete operational (7-11 years)
Formal operational (11 years ? adult) (Woolfolk & Margetts, 2016, p. 83).

Piaget?s ideas on students? stages of development is extremely important. It is important because his work has been used as a basis to design education programs around the world (Woolfolk & Margetts, 2016, p. 90). In Australia for example, many curriculum frameworks; ?promote an active constructivist, investigative approach that also involves age- or stage-related outcomes,? (Woolfolk & Margetts, 2016, p. 90). Essentially, Piaget emphasizes the importance of understanding how children think, which allows for more efficient teaching strategies to match children?s abilities (Woolfolk & Margetts, 2016, p. 90).
