Jackie Robinson was a famous baseball player who also the first African American Major League Baseball player. He received many honors as well as breaking the color barrier. Jackie Robinson was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his outstanding performance.
Jackie Robinson was born January 31st 1919 In United States Cairo, Georgia Robinson's mother did various domestic jobs to earn a living, and as a boy Robinson helped by delivering newspapers and selling food during games at the Rose Bowl. In 1940 he also won the Pacific Coast Conference broad jump competition with a jump of 25 feet, and won the National Collegiate Championship in that event. Robinson played shortstop in his first professional baseball job. When the 1946 season came to close, Robinson went on a barnstorming tour with a team he made up of other leading black players, and when the weather turned too cold to play baseball, he signed to play basketball with the Los Angeles Red Devils to stay in shape.
He also led the league in stolen bases, played in the World Series, and was voted the league’s most valuable player. His career batting average was .311 over 1,382 games, and he had 91,518 hits and scored 947 runs. Robinson was a fixture in the National League’s All-Star games 1949 to 1954 and in the World Series of 1947, 1949, 1952-53 and 1955-56.
